Interview with Ahmad Abedini at Friday 11th of May 2012

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
AA: using different styles of kitchen instruments messes up the cooking environment and creates visual annoyance. Kitchen train is a solution to make a unity between the mostly used accessories in all kitchens

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
AA: The main purpose was to get to a form which can include all of these utensils and has a unity in the gestalt.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
AA: Being produced by one of the home appliance companies

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
AA: about 72 hours

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
AA: this design is the implementation of an idea in my mind

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
AA: I have not received any offer for its production yet and I was not looking for it but I plan to copyright the idea

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
AA: Housewives

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
AA: I couldn't find any similar concept

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
AA: The name represents the Unity in Multiplicity

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
AA: Paper and pencil Drawing tablet Computer aided industrial design software

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
AA: Integrated form and pleasant appearance

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
AA: Yes, on this design my dear student Mr. Ehsan Sayyad has cooperated with me, specially in the modeling and rendering parts

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
AA: It really doesn't use a complicated technology and its most important property is its the appearance

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
AA: I had hours of conversation with the users of these utensils I consulted with some them on every step of the design process and applied their critical opinions to complete the final design

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
AA: the most considerable part of the design is related to the market In fact the customer will have to make a difficult choice since he has to purchase all of the 6 utensils. but this can be beneficial when most of the customers will like it because it will also prevent wasting their time. On the other hand, the company will also take benefits because it will sell all of the 6 parts in every sale. I predict that the "Kitchen Train" will become very popular when entering the market because of its innovative design.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
AA: I wanted to ensure about the value of this idea and the best place for its evaluation could be an international competition.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
AA: during the design of this product I trained myself to use and apply the users' opinions on my designs

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
AA: I would like to thank the A'Design award and competition's team and the staff

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
