Interview with Mohamed Amin Sherif at Friday 7th of February 2014 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? MS: Art Nouveau carving style FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? MS: Re newing and re freshing the burried art nouveau style to be used in nowadays luxurious wood products FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? MS: This award encourages me to challenge more designs for excellence FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? MS: 4 months FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? MS: I was just inspired by this style which I always loved FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? MS: I produce my work myself in my factory FS: What made you design this particular type of work? MS: My love to the Art Nouveu carving FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? MS: No FS: Who is the target customer for his design? MS: Palace and Big Villa Owners FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? MS: The high level carving precision and the outstanding design FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? MS: It describes the product FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? MS: Pencil and paper then computer FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? MS: Design FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? MS: Yes my Carpenters and carvers FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? MS: very poor role because we apply old techniques in manufacturing or products to keep the rich taste and texture of genuine handmade crafts FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? MS: Art Nouveau articles in historic books of design FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? MS: Depth of carving reaching 28 cm FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? MS: surfing the web for the most reliable award asociation FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? MS: History of Art Nouveau carving art
