Interview with Mania Carta at Saturday 9th of November 2024

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
MC: I was always fascinated by witches and fantasy this is where it really soya came to be. at first, I wanted to create a beautiful digital human Korean girl but then my imagination starts to take me somewhere else once I started to see Soya From there I start to think about how I can give a beautiful dark touch and make her unique from there I start to get inspiration from witches and mystery fantasy characters to create her to a new level of creativity. The way made soya is like using Lego, it was for me like a puzzle to achieve what I want at the end from there I start to think about creating different lighting scenario and cinematic shots to give the final visual and representation of her characteristic as a light witch.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
MC: Every character I develop, I use blender as my main production workflow this time I wanted to achieve something dark, beauty deep mysterious, I achieved what I want but still as an artist I always like to find new challenges to bring something new to the World and this is really my true passion.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
MC: To complete my story the Witches of Linerma and reveal the true identity of this Witch why her name is Luna where she came from and what's the reason that she is the main protagonist of the story to save Linerma from the Darkness that the God of chaos Enix created.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
MC: It took me 1 month to make Soya from modeling, and texturing to rigging and final lighting and compositing

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
MC: I wanted to create something new and unique but also that have mystery, dark and beautiful.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
MC: No, it wasn't but I received many requests and offers from different big companies and studios from China, Korea, France, Singapore, Japan such as Netease, Square Enix, Colosso, Yihuu to sell my design and explain the process of how it was made and lease the production rights, but I rejected them all and I have no plan to sell any of my characters to any platform.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
MC: I wanted to create a dark beauty even and with the technology we have in our hand I am going to bring Soya this time to something new.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
MC: It was only me and every character I have created there is no one involved.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
MC: I didn't target anyone it was my personal project, but I was focusing on bringing a new image and unique style to sandstorm the company I created and my design Soya with other creative styles helped me achieve that.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
MC: Soya is a mysterious dark light witch and sister of Luna Lankaster that it's very hard to reproduce this is why every day I receive emails from different places in the world asking for tutorials or selling in it.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
MC: Luna it's coming from the name Moon and her earring, and her necklace is a moon this is why her name is Luna.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
MC: I use mostly Blender when making Luna but also, I used Marvelous Designer for making her clothes and Zbrush for sculpting details such as her crescent and then knald for baking the high details.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
MC: Mystery

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
MC: No, I didn't collaborate with anyone, I made Luna by self at home using my personal computer.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
MC: Technology was an important role for me, by learning Blender and developing my own skills and techniques on it help me imagine and create what I want to achieve as the final product.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
MC: No, it wasn't the only thing that was influenced was Luna necklaces beside that everything was created from my imaginations.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
MC: The challenge I faced during the production of Luna was her characteristic and personality, at first, I was focusing on creating a beautiful Korean girl in CG but then slowly started to see something out of what I wanted to make then once it appeared I start to focus on her slowly until I created her how I wanted to see her.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
MC: To be honest I never thought of that until someone from your staff contacted me to participate in the competition, at first I was hesitating because I was busy but also it was my first experience participating in an international design competition then I decided to free my time and focus on the competition for me it was a great experience and I will participate again in the future.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
MC: After I created Luna The Night Witch and win the heart of people around the world and receiving different awards in different platforms and got featured which I never tought of it, because of that it gave me a strong motivation to start to developing my self more and create more characters for my fantasy dark story.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
MC: I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to express myself and sharing my experience and the challenges I faces during the making of Soya Lankastar. I also would like to thank you for the silver award I win which now gives me more motivation and challenge to bring something to a new high level of creativity to the World.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
