Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer BAZ Yacht Design (BD) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of BAZ Yacht Design by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design MS Andiamo here.

Interview with BAZ Yacht Design at Sunday 4th of August 2024

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
BD: The main concept for this Bronze Award-winning yacht interior was to create a unique and inviting space. Through a few collaborative meetings with the owner, we decided to incorporate arcs, soft lines, and smooth edges, ensuring the design not only stands out but also enhances functionality. Importantly, these design elements were chosen with the understanding that this is a sailing yacht, where soft lines and smooth edges contribute to safer and more comfortable navigation in high seas

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
BD: The main idea was to create a yacht with soft lines, graceful arcs, and smooth edges, setting her apart from other motorsailers. This design approach ensures that she stands out as a truly unique and elegant vessel.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
BD: MS Andiamo was delivered to her owner at the beginning of this summer, and we hope they enjoy wonderful moments with their loved ones aboard. Who knows—perhaps a sistership of Andiamo will be ordered and built in near future!

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
BD: The interior design took approximately 5 months.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
BD: As we got to know our client, we discovered their preference for gold and bronze details with smooth lines, which could have led to a more traditional classic interior design. Our goal, however, was to create a unique and timeless design. We achieved this by blending classic elements with modern, sophisticated features. The result was a game-changing interior that satisfied all parties and set a new standard for luxury motorsailers.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
BD: We designed the Bronze Award-winning interior for MS Andiamo on behalf of ARK Yacht for their new build, created specifically for a client based in the USA.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
BD: The main idea was to make a unique interior design and within a couple of meetings with the owner, the idea of using arcs, soft lines, curves and smoothened edges. And never foget that this is eventually a sailing yacht. Soft lines and smoothened edges will be helpful in high seas navigations.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
BD: The entire design process, including material selection and supply, was managed in-house by our team at BAZ Yacht Design. While we drew inspiration from various sources, our approach was uniquely crafted through our internal expertise and creative vision.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
BD: This design was crafted exclusively for the yacht owners, ensuring a bespoke and personalized experience tailored to their specific preferences and needs.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
BD: Our goal was to create a unique and timeless design, blending classic elements with modern, sophisticated features. This approach resulted in a game-changing interior for luxury motorsailers.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
BD: The yacht was named by the owners, reflecting their personal vision and connection to the vessel.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
BD: We use essential tools to bring yacht concepts to life, including an iPad for quick sketches, Rhinoceros 3D for detailed modeling, and Vray and Corona for realistic renderings.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
BD: Timeless design that uniquely blends modern and classic lines.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
BD: Good collaboration with the yard, engineering office, and owner is essential. We are pleased with the strong communication we achieved throughout the interior design process.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
BD: In this project, our focus was primarily on sophisticated and elegant interior design features rather than technological aspects.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
BD: In the interior design project for MS Andiamo, the key research is understanding the client's design preferences and desires. We discovered their appreciation for gold and bronze details with smooth lines, which could have led to a more traditional design. However, the main goal was to create a unique and timeless interior. By blending classic elements with modern, sophisticated features, we achieved a game-changing design for luxury motorsailers that satisfied everyone involved.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
BD: Material selection is always a challenge for the owner, yard, and designer. Through effective communication, we managed this process smoothly and finalized a unique design.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
BD: We decided to submit our design to an international competition because we believed it truly showcased our innovation and craftsmanship. We wanted to gain global recognition and highlight the unique aspects of our work on a larger stage

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
BD: Throughout the design process, we gained valuable insights into merging classic and contemporary styles, improved our expertise in material selection and client engagement, and perfected our approach to crafting timeless, elegant interiors.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
BD: We would be delighted to share the promotional video of MS Andiamo soon as the shooting is on air now.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
