Interview with Daniel de de Burgos Bengoechea at Friday 17th of May 2024

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
Dd: The idea was to create a device with an innovative design with great functionality and beautiful aesthetics. To achieve this, a special design had to be found that allowed multiple grips and that the device could remain both horizontally and vertically.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
Dd: My goal was to achieve a multifunctional, aesthetic and simple design. The intention was to create a device that would adapt to the characteristics of all types of people.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
Dd: I would love to be able to license or sell the patent. My final goal is that the device can be sold on the market since I consider it to be a highly multifunctional device.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
Dd: One week.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
Dd: This design arose individually, the inspiration came from looking at my room and seeing numerous fitness equipment. Then, I realized that they took up too much space and that is when the idea came to me of creating a device that could have the same functional characteristics as all of them but synthesizing it in a single device.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
Dd: My main idea is to license or sell the patent. At the moment the prototype works perfectly but I have not yet launched the production and marketing of the device. I am taking steps forward to the best of my ability.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
Dd: I consider that in fitness there are a multitude of devices that have very specific functionalities, so I was inclined to design a device that encompasses many functionalities, that is, not to be an all-in-one device. At the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions (2023) the jury spontaneously called it "the Swiss Army knife of sport"

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
Dd: I did not look specifically at any specific designer, I based my design on the synthesis of different ideas and functionality that I intended to achieve and from there I organized the design.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
Dd: My potential clients are those people who like to exercise at home or outdoors. Also people who want to recover from injuries or improve their mobility since this device is highly recommended for physiotherapy.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
Dd: The variety of shapes of the multi-grips and their arrangement make the device something different and innovative.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
Dd: It is divided into 3 words Slide: roll, it is a device that rolls Roller: roller, it is composed of a foam roller and PRO: professional, since it is a device that adapts to basic levels but also to advanced levels thanks to its multifunctionality .

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
Dd: A pencil, a sheet of paper and cardboard.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
Dd: The elliptical finish is perhaps the most distinctive element of the device since it allows it to remain standing and facilitates the ergonomic grip of the hands, in addition to the introduction of the hands and feet inside the elliptical hole.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
Dd: The entire design is mine, then a 3D engineering company helped me to carry out the final prototype, but there was no design change, it was a success from the first moment.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
Dd: At a technological level it has little history, the key to the design is the variety of its shapes and its layout that give it great functionality and ergonomics.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
Dd: My design was instinctive, wild I would say. I didn't have any outside influence.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
Dd: My biggest challenge was to make the device functional and able to stand vertically, since that gives it a certain beauty on an aesthetic level.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
Dd: I received a personalized invitation to present at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions (2023) where I won the gold medal.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
Dd: In the process I learned to have a more complete vision of the world of fitness, inventions and design. There were many things and details that I didn't know and that I had to learn during this process.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
Dd: I consider it to be a complete and interesting set of questions.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
