Interview with Deacon Loi at Wednesday 24th of July 2024 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? DL: The main principle is to create a sophisticated yet cozy living space that balances aesthetics and functionality. The design draws inspiration from natural materials like wood and marble, accented with gold and brass, and enhanced by soft neutrals and thoughtful lighting to evoke a soothing, opulent atmosphere. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? DL: The main focus was to blend aesthetics with functionality, aiming to create a visually impressive yet practical living space. The goal was to achieve a sophisticated, cozy atmosphere with modern elegance and a soothing ambiance. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? DL: Future plans for this award-winning design include showcasing it in various design exhibitions and publications to inspire other designers and homeowners. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? DL: The design of this particular concept took approximately 1 month, from initial brainstorming and conceptualization to finalizing the details and ensuring the perfect balance of aesthetics and functionality. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? DL: This particular concept was designed to explore and express a modern, elegant living space that balances aesthetics and functionality. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? DL: The design is currently intended for production by our team. There are no plans to sell or lease production rights to another company. The goal is to oversee and manage the production process to ensure the design's integrity and quality are maintained. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? DL: The aim was to craft a design that not only looks visually impressive but also offers a comfortable and serene environment, addressing both aesthetic appeal and everyday use. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? DL: Yes, the design was influenced by various designers and styles. Notable inspirations included modern minimalist designs that emphasize clean lines and functional elegance, as well as the use of natural materials and sophisticated lighting techniques. These influences helped shape the overall aesthetic and practical elements of the project. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? DL: The target customer for this design is individuals or families seeking a sophisticated, modern living space that combines elegance with practicality. They value high-quality materials, a cozy yet stylish atmosphere, and a design that enhances both the visual appeal and functionality of their home. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? DL: This design stands out due to its unique integration of natural materials, like wood and marble, with opulent gold and brass accents. The thoughtful use of soft neutrals and curved wall details creates a distinctive, elegant ambiance. Additionally, the design emphasizes a seamless blend of aesthetics and functionality, incorporating advanced lighting techniques and practical elements to enhance both visual appeal and everyday use. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? DL: The name for this design was chosen to reflect the core elements and overall ambiance of the project. It evokes the essence of sophistication and coziness while highlighting the integration of natural materials and modern elegance. The name aims to convey the harmonious blend of aesthetics and functionality that defines the space, encapsulating its unique visual and emotional impact. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? DL: For this project, the design tools used included 3DsMax and AutoCAD for precise visualization and planning. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? DL: The most unique aspect of the design is the seamless integration of curved wall details with a sophisticated mix of materials, such as wood, marble, and gold/brass accents. This combination creates a distinctive, opulent ambiance. Additionally, the thoughtful use of lighting enhances the overall elegance and functionality, setting it apart from other similar concepts. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? DL: For this design, collaboration involved a team of skilled professionals, including interior designers, architects, and lighting specialists. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? DL: Technology plays a crucial role in this design by enhancing both its aesthetic and functional aspects. Advanced 3D modeling software was used for precise visualization and planning, while smart lighting systems were integrated to create dynamic, adjustable ambiance. Additionally, energy-efficient solutions and modern home automation features were incorporated to improve functionality and sustainability. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? DL: Yes, the design was influenced by data and analytical research. Research included studying trends in modern interior design, analyzing material performance, and gathering insights on user preferences for comfort and functionality. Market research helped identify popular aesthetics and practical features, while data on lighting and energy efficiency informed the design choices to ensure both elegance and practicality. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? DL: Some challenges faced during the design and realization of the concept included balancing aesthetic appeal with functional requirements, particularly in integrating complex curved wall details and advanced lighting systems. Ensuring the seamless fusion of diverse materials, like wood, marble, and metal accents, also presented difficulties in maintaining consistency and durability. Additionally, coordinating with various specialists and managing project timelines required careful planning and communication. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? DL: The decision to submit the design to an international competition was driven by a desire to gain broader recognition and feedback from a global audience. The project’s unique blend of aesthetics and functionality, along with its innovative use of materials and design elements, made it a strong candidate. Participating in the competition provided an opportunity to showcase the work on an international stage and connect with other design professionals. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? DL: During the design process, I learned the importance of balancing innovative aesthetics with practical functionality. The experience improved my skills in integrating diverse materials and advanced technology seamlessly. I also enhanced my ability to manage complex projects, coordinate with various specialists, and adapt designs based on evolving requirements and feedback. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? DL: One additional aspect worth mentioning is the design's emphasis on sustainability. Efforts were made to incorporate eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient solutions, reflecting a commitment to environmentally conscious design practices. This consideration not only enhances the design’s appeal but also aligns with broader goals of reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainable living.
