Interview with Mania Carta at Saturday 30th of November 2024 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? MC: I was always fascinated by witches and dark fantasy and this is where it really how i created Niferia. at first, I wanted to create a beautiful digital human Korean girl but then my imagination starts to take me somewhere else once I started to see Soya From there I start to think about how I can give a beautiful dark touch and make her unique from there I start to get inspiration from witches and mystery fantasy characters to create her to a new level of creativity. The way made soya is like using Lego, it was for me like a puzzle to achieve what I want at the end from there I start to think about creating different lighting scenario and cinematic shots to give the final visual and representation of her characteristic as a light witch. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? MC: After i completed Luna, and then when i saw other talented artists create realism visuals and beautiful character likeness, i then decided to move toward realism in real time with Blender and especially develop my skills in Eevee, that was my main goal to achieve such visual in real time. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? MC: So many project and technology that i am developing that will be bring something new to the gaming industry and whole world. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? MC: Niferia took me 1 month around to finish it especially when i want it to make her dark outfit and look visual style because i didn't had concept or visual direction, so i created her from my mind. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? MC: I wanted to challenge my self to develop realism character in real time within blender with dark visual touch. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? MC: No, all my works and characters that i made they will never be sold to anyone, i like to keep them for my self, but usually if the client is requesting something similar then i provide him the visual and style based of the direction received. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? MC: I just wanted to create realism likeness, but since Niferia wasn't based by any reference, i created her form my mind. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? MC: No there is no one, every characters or production visual i ma is by me only since i enjoy every things to make is imperfect and perfect at the same time but perfection even masters artists can not achieve it, but i really enjoy every moment when i craft my characters. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? MC: There is no target, i made it for me but also i can say that it was also an influence for other games company in AAA game production. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? MC: Niferia's outfit, i want to create real time dark outfit that will fit her characteristic and visual FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? MC: For Niferia, the name it just came from my mind, i like it how it spell and then i give her such name. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? MC: Blender is my main design tool and because i wanted to challenge my self to create outfit and dark visuals i developed my skills to make clothes, armors with clean curves and complex shapes. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? MC: This dark witch is a fantasy imagination and she doesn't exist in real life, but maybe someone in the world can look like her. My focus when i made Niferia is i want to see her real human and if anyone see her they will think she is real wearing dark outfit cosplay. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? MC: No one, i made everything by my self. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? MC: Realism with Eevee, that was the main technology behind this character, achieving a realism in blender with Eevee is not an easy task at all since it can look fake so i developed a method and complete node shader that will bring any character to life especially skin shading. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? MC: No Niferia is not influenced by anything, i made her from my mind. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? MC: Hair grooming since blender was still weak, but now as blender have better system grooming i will recreate her in real time again but in unreal engine. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? MC: To be honest, as an Artist i enjoy my passion every second in my life and because of that i wasn't open others, because the only thing i wanted to do is create characters that i see in my mind but then i i found out that they are design competition that you can submit your works to get appreciated and that's how it came the idea to submit my design. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? MC: Many things, first achieve realism in real time which was the most challenge for me and second unique style that has never been seen, those was two important things that i was focus when i was making Niferia, i want it to create a mysterious dark witch that anyone who will see her, they thing she is a real human. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? MC: I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to express myself once again and sharing my passion and experience and the challenges I faces during the making of Niferia. I also would like to thank you for the silver award I win which now gives me more motivation and challenge to bring something more and new style of level creativity to the World.
