Interview with Mohsen Koofiani at Wednesday 15th of May 2024

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
MK: The packaging is related to the beverage dessert product. According to the manufacturer's sales goal of producing this product, which was children, creating a dreamy and distinct world for children in the form of different drinks was created in the designer's mind.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
MK: The main focus in the design of this project was to create a fantasy and effective space that can communicate effectively with children. All the efforts of the designer to create the space have been to establish a sensory connection between drinks and children.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
MK: Due to the good opinion of the judges, we are convinced that the packaging will perform well and creating related campaigns will have a double effect on its impact. Therefore, the creation of physical fantasy spaces will be on the agenda to have a better visual interaction with children.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
MK: This has been a 6-month project for the designer. From idea generation to research and final implementation of the project.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
MK: This was a custom project from Zarin Ghazal Company (an ice cream manufacturer) for a beverage dessert product in Iran. Their request was to create a suitable idea to communicate better with the children's world.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
MK: No, this is a custom project and after the completion of the project, all the legal rights of the work belong to Zarrin Ghazal Company.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
MK: My interest in the children's world and the activeness of my "inner child" was one of the most important factors that tempted me to do this project.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
MK: The target customers of the design were children. Creating a children's fantasy atmosphere that can only be seen in their dreams and game world. Creating a happy and colorful atmosphere.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
MK: In this design, we tried to convey excitement to the audience from the illustration and colors along with the characteristic taste (fruits) in the packaging. Not using large and sharp images of fruits is a feature of this design. Because we tried to implement it with illustration.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
MK: Daity is one of the brands of Zarrin Ghazal Company. Keeping the previous name, we tried to create a different world and used the name of the galaxy along with the name of Daity.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
MK: Pencil and watercolor were the tools used. We felt that maybe watercolor would give a better feeling to this issue.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
MK: The most unique aspect of the design is the use of numerous colors in the design. Colors are the point of contact between the emotions of a design and the visual vision of the audience and convey the mood of the design better.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
MK: To design this project, we did a lot of research on children's behavior and emotions and examined their drawings. In fact, it was done with the cooperation of children.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
MK: Yes. Children have been the most important part of this issue. Analyzing and examining children's drawings, examining their games and periods, group games, all have had a great impact on the role-playing of this project.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
MK: Connecting with children and working in their world was one of the most important challenges and what a beautiful world it is to be with them.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
MK: I decided to trust the children's feelings and evaluate my design based on their feelings, and if successful, I could share this experience with other designers.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
MK: To be patient, to be happy, to see and think differently, to stay away from some intellectual barriers that prevent mental creativity, were all the things that I learned in this project while working with children.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
