Interview with Arvin Maleki at Tuesday 7th of May 2024

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
AM: Greenify was inspired by the pressing need for sustainable living solutions that are easily accessible to the general public. The app is designed to foster environmental responsibility by making it simpler for users to adopt eco-friendly habits through technology.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
AM: My main focus was to create an intuitive, engaging platform that demystifies the process of reducing one’s carbon footprint. The goal was to empower users by providing actionable insights and building a community around sustainable practices.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
AM: We plan to continuously update Greenify with the latest sustainable practices and expand its functionality to include more interactive features such as augmented reality for visualizing environmental impact, enhancing user engagement and effectiveness.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
AM: The development of Greenify spanned approximately two months, from initial concept to launch, focusing on user-centric design and rigorous testing to ensure a seamless user experience.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
AM: Greenify was born from a personal commitment to environmental conservation and a realization of the gap in tools that facilitate a sustainable lifestyle. It was a self-initiated project aimed at creating widespread positive environmental change.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
AM: Greenify is currently available and maintained by my team. We are open to collaborations and partnerships that can help scale its impact and integrate additional functionalities.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
AM: As a designer deeply concerned about the environmental crisis, I felt compelled to use my skills to contribute to a solution. Creating an app that could make sustainability a part of everyday life seemed like a practical and impactful approach.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
AM: While the concept and execution are uniquely mine, I drew inspiration from existing sustainability and lifestyle apps, adopting best practices in UX/UI to enhance user engagement and retention.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
AM: The target users for Greenify are individuals who are eco-conscious and looking to make more informed decisions about their environmental impact but may lack the tools or knowledge to do so effectively.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
AM: Greenify differentiates itself with its community-focused features, allowing users to not only track their sustainability efforts but also engage with others, share tips, and organize local eco-friendly initiatives.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
AM: The name "Greenify" implies the action of turning green—symbolizing the transformation toward a more sustainable lifestyle. It reflects the app’s purpose to inspire and facilitate environmental change.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
AM: I utilized React Native for mobile development, ensuring cross-platform compatibility, along with advanced UI design tools to create a visually appealing and functional user interface.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
AM: The unique aspect of Greenify is its incorporation of gamification elements within a sustainability context, making the act of reducing one's carbon footprint engaging and competitive.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
AM: This project was a collaborative effort involving environmental experts to provide content and software developers specializing in mobile app development to ensure robust performance and scalability.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
AM: Technology is at the heart of Greenify, enabling us to bridge the gap between knowledge and action in sustainability practices through features like a carbon footprint calculator and personalized eco-challenges.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
AM: Extensive user research, including interviews and surveys, was conducted to understand potential users' behaviors and needs regarding sustainable living, which guided the design process.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
AM: Balancing comprehensive functionality with user simplicity was challenging, especially ensuring the app remains engaging without being overwhelming.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
AM: Submitting to the A’ Design Award was a strategic move to gain credibility and visibility in the design community, helping to promote the app’s mission on a global scale.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
AM: This project enhanced my understanding of behavioral psychology in design and improved my technical skills in app development, particularly in environmental applications.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
AM: It’s essential to highlight that while Greenify aims to facilitate individual actions, its ultimate goal is to foster a collective movement towards a more sustainable future through community and collaboration.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
