Interview with MASUO FUJIMURA at Wednesday 14th of June 2023 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? MF: Inspiration is always in our lives. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? MF: We wanted to explore the possibilities of "pipe design" structures. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? MF: I would like to implement this chair in a building project I am working on. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? MF: About a month after the idea was born. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? MF: We designed this chair in pursuit of a low-cost, feasible design that can be integrated into a variety of interior spaces. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? MF: My furniture designs are intended to be used in the spaces I design. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? MF: We wanted to pay homage to Bauhaus design and revive its design philosophy in the modern age. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? MF: MARCEL BREUER FS: Who is the target customer for his design? MF: Residential and Commercial FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? MF: The search for harmony with space through minimalism. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? MF: A single unbroken line FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? MF: 3D modeling is done after the model is fabricated. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? MF: A single unbroken line FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? MF: I design with my own experience and skill. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? MF: Improvement of pipe welding techniques. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? MF: We researched furniture of the period designed by Bauhaus. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? MF: Simplicity diminishes the characteristics of the product. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? MF: Because no other design like this exists. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? MF: Designs that seem ordinary are the most difficult. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? MF: I can't think of any.
