Interview with Paul Robb at Wednesday 14th of June 2023

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
PR: The concept of the typeface was to create a modern twist on a sans font.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
PR: During the design process, we wanted to create something fresh and innovative in how the forms and shapes communicate together.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
PR: The font is represented throughout the world via Monotype and T26 font distribution and hopefully enjoyed by other designers in their projects.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
PR: Each of the fonts requires around 3 months of design and engineering.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
PR: It was a design/sketch that seemed to gain a form, that we felt needed to be brought to market.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
PR: The font is widely available with licensing handled by the relative companies.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
PR: We started our foundry in 2020 and this font fits perfectly in our retail fonts distribution.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
PR: I think everything we see influences our execution of a design

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
PR: Our foundry designs fonts by designers for designers.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
PR: The design concept was to create large open counters with great contrast.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
PR: I'm not really sure. But as the font designs progress they seem to naturally have forms that the name changes until that balance of name and form is visually correct.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
PR: Sketchbooks, and then engineered in Glyphs

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
PR: It's form and flow.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
PR: No one

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
PR: Technology is fundamental in the development of each engineered typeface

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
PR: no.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
PR: Probably the biggest problem is dedicating the right time to each stage.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
PR: We love to have our design pied reviewed as it stimulates the process to continue our development.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
PR: Every part of the process is a learning exercise to create new and more complex systems

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
PR: Thank you!

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
