Interview with Gabriela Herde at Wednesday 14th of June 2023 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? GH: The idea was to create a façade that spoke to the city and the nature of the place, that made this transition, something flexible and sustainable, that did not generate so much waste, a cleaner architecture, in every sense. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? GH: My main focus was to contribute positively to the city's urban landscape and to generate more comfort for the building's residents. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? GH: I hope to be able to contribute more and more to the development of facades that make cities more interesting and customers more satisfied. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? GH: One year. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? GH: I, together with the client, decided to bring a more innovative and sophisticated concept to the city of Itapema, a more current language, with lighter and more sustainable materials, a more organic design, different from what was being built here, the client gave me complete freedom. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? GH: In architecture it doesn't work like that, each project is unique. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? GH: On the trips I take around the world, I see a lot of new things, traveling inspires me a lot, when I return, I like to put into practice everything I've seen and learned. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? GH: Sure, many buildings around the world. I love the architects Arthur Casas and Isay Winfeld. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? GH: Construction Companies. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? GH: That. design differentiates by receiving special and differentiated treatment on its four facades. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? GH: Riverside 01, because its by a river. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? GH: Pencil and paper. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? GH: The design respects the curves of the river. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? GH: With My team. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? GH: Technology enters the materials and solutions used, such as ACM and also the green slabs. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? GH: We carried out field trips, to Milan, Sao Paulo and Curitiba, to analyze buildings and facades that most attracted us. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? GH: We had challenges regarding the architectural project, which came from another office, we had to readjust it so that the facade would be more interesting. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? GH: It was an old dream of mine, both to design a project of this size and to gain international recognition. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
