Interview with Jackson Y. K. Chia at Friday 30th of June 2023 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? YC: The design inspiration came from the most recognizable symbol of mountain which located in Northern Borneo. Whereas the topography of the Mount 'Kinabalu' has become the highlights within the atmosphere. A picturesque of scenery could be found from the full height window glass in dawn. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? YC: The main focus is the symbolic between the highest mount in northern Borneo and this proposed design. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? YC: With this award winning given me courage to be a better version of me in design future. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? YC: It's took around 1 and a half month to complete the design. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? YC: This proposed design propety is the highest building in northern borneo so i decided to reflect the higest mountain which mount kinabalu as develop concept, i decided to pursuit an inspiration. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? YC: Well meanwhile i intent to sell. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? YC: The passion and love of art. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? YC: There were my designer to execute the design but mainly the concept came from me. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? YC: Property Developer. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? YC: I think is the contour of the peak of mount. Kinabalu on the ceiling reflected to the wall. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? YC: Is a private dining facilities on level 54. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? YC: Vector works, Autocad, Sketch up pro, Lumion 12 pro, Adobe Premier Pro and a high end desktop. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? YC: The whole concept reflected and symbolic of the highest building and highest mountain in northern borneo. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? YC: I collaborate with my design team. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? YC: To make design detail more clear and minimise hussel in construction drawing, and of course a more realistic 3D rendering. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? YC: We research in materials which reflect luxury and mountain kinabalu. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? YC: The mix and match of materials along with the space planing so that the layout have to be functional. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? YC: I want to explore more and learn from the process of the international competition. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? YC: I learn a lot in writing thesis of the design during the process. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? YC: Hi im Jackson Y. K.
