Interview with kalbod studio at Sunday 22nd of May 2022

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
MR: In designing the bridge, we have tried to use not only the Iranian people but also the international level, considering the historical bridges of Isfahan province, especially the Khajoo bridge, which spoke as a symbol of culture and technology between Isfahan bridges. It also has different functions and flexibility of the bridge with climatic and user conditions, which is one of the goals of this project. As a result, the project design process proceeds in such a way .

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
MR: Due to the location of the site in terms of proximity to universities and various industries and science and technology towns and educational and research institutions and proximity to the fourth ring of Isfahan and location on the main route Isfahan-Tehran and Isfahan Najafabad axis has made it possible to establish scientific research. And meet the mutual needs between the area of technology trade and innovation with educational institutions and industries.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
MR: We try to work on this project in different dimensions and try to introduce it as much as possible

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
MR: We worked on the initial concept for about 2 months and about 2 months on developing the design

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
MR: Our topic was bridge design, and for Isfahan, which was famous for its beautiful bridges in the world, we naturally had to use significant elements. We tried to use the arches and the image that they throw in the water as a module, and Extend it

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
MR: This project was designed for the University of Isfahan and the necessary measures for construction are under consideration

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
MR: In the design of the bridge, reflective symmetry has been used, so that by reflecting the facade on the river surface, a complete pattern is created, such as the inner covering of the dome of Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque. In the project, by considering different spaces in the bridge, an attempt has been made to design maximum dynamic and flexible spaces so that the user, in addition to using exhibition spaces at different times, can enjoy various spaces such as the central courtyard. The central courtyards are located in front of the exhibition doors to help the exhibition with different spatial qualities when needed.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
MR: The type of modulation structure and the relationship between the spaces and the fact that these modules also play a structural role made this design more special.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
MR: Due to the location of this bridge between the University of Isfahan and the Start-up Technology Center, this bridge was named knowledge Bridge

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
MR: Raini-Revit-3dmax- lumion-

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
MR: Utilizing traditional architectural patterns to preserve the landscape of the city

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
MR: This design was designed with the efforts of all my colleagues in the studio

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
MR: The use of technology is very important and effective in making these modules. Another point is that the exhibition spaces of this bridge are to be used as startups and as technology spaces

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
MR: The most important issue for building a bridge is always structural analysis and the relationship between architecture and structure. Proper distribution of weight between modular foundations and division of this weight is one of the most important issues of analysis.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
MR: In the urban plan, the location of functional points is not specified according to the needs of students and professors around the University of Technology. In addition to the relationship between the two academic districts, the urban element must also be considered The quality of flexible urban space with gallery spaces has been considered by designers in project design. The project design has arranged different spaces next to each other so that it can perform its adjacent functions properly. Decisions to select and organize uses will also be flexible depending on the circumstances.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
MR: We always send all our designs to international competitions. This is important both for challenging ourselves and our designs, as well as for the studio.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
MR: We always try to achieve better quality during each design, use the experience of previous designs and be better architects. This project also had a great impact on my and my colleagues' mental state
