Interview with Wen Lung Cho at Sunday 15th of May 2022 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? WC: Travel and joy are conveyed through illustrations, such as the reunion of friends, the travel of one person, etc. And the colorful colors also make people feel happy. In this series of illustrations, the use of bright colors to highlight the joyful illustration atmosphere, in the details of the arrangement of the characters, such as the joy of friends party or the joy of meeting a jazz singer on Bourbon Street, are all clever arrangements, so that readers can feel a variety of good times. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? WC: The current Covid-19 pandemic prevents friends from gathering and traveling abroad. Everyone has lost the freedom of social life and travel they once had. The beautiful life experience in the memory is depicted in colorful colors. Hope to breathe freely as soon as possible and return to normal life. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? WC: Continue to work on designing/creating illustrations FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? WC: The entire travel series was created in about a few weeks FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? WC: Because of the Covid-19 pandemic preventing friends from gathering and traveling abroad, etc., reminding me of the life I once had was the origin of the concept of this creative illustration. This creative illustration was commissioned but executed with my vision FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? WC: Yes there is production and use FS: What made you design this particular type of work? WC: My motivation for creating this series of illustrations is to hope that those who watch will feel the joy. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? WC: Master Hayao Miyazaki FS: Who is the target customer for his design? WC: general audience FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? WC: Different themes with similar but expressed human and earth environment concepts FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? WC: Travel is the main axis of my entire illustration, so it is directly named after travel FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? WC: hand painted acrylic paint FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? WC: Colourful and expressive stories FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? WC: completed independently FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? WC: It is necessary to master the colorful color and fast drying properties of acrylic pigments FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? WC: Use your own past experience and Internet search for relevant information as a reference FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? WC: Modifications requested by the client FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? WC: Received an email from the A' Design Awards Invitational Contest FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? WC: Design/illustration technology should be continuously observed and improved FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? WC: No
