Interview with Unique Store Fixtures at Monday 1st of November 2021 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? FC: The goal of the installation was to be able to create heaven in Caesarstone. The installation aimed at creating a kind of a dreamscape fantasyland of ethereal cloud-like fluffiness using a hard surface. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? FC: The main focus of the installation is to showcase an ethereal softness, which was paradoxically achieved by using thick marble slabs. The installation aimed at creating a kind of a dreamscape fantasyland of ethereal cloud-like fluffiness using a hard surface. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? FC: The team behind this award-winning design is hoping to inspire others to push boundaries when it comes to design and manufacturing. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? FC: Unique Store Fixtures had just under four weeks to complete this project. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? FC: Unique Store Fixtures happily took on the project by working alongside their trusted partners, Caesarstone and Jonathan Adler. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? FC: This was a temporary installation, therefore it has not been produced or used by another third party company. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? FC: We worked as a team to successfully bring to life Jonathan Adler’s imagination. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? FC: The “Dreamland” installation was in collaboration with Caesarstone and Jonathan Adler. The installation was an original creation. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? FC: This design was meant to be enjoyed while on display at the Toronto Interior Design Show 2020 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? FC: The fact that the installation used thick marble slabs to showcase an ethereal softness was what set this project apart from all others. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? FC: Jonathan Adler wanted to create a, “...heaven in Caesarstone” and to create a kind of a dreamscape fantasyland of ethereal cloud-like fluffiness using a hard surface. The name “Dreamland” naturally stemmed from his vision. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? FC: The final installation consisted of more than 75 slabs of Caesarstone material, each weighing more than 1,000 pounds, and was constructed by Unique Store Fixtures with a team of 30 installers in the lead-up to the event. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? FC: The most unique aspect of this design is the juxtaposition between marble and ethereal softness showcased in the final installation. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? FC: Unique Store Fixtures had just under four weeks to complete this project and the final installation consisted of more than 75 slabs of Caesarstone material, each weighing more than 1,000 pounds, and was constructed by Unique Store Fixtures with a team of 30 installers in the lead-up to the event. Unique Store Fixtures had a team of dedicated experts in the manufacturing field to make this installation come to life. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? FC: The role of technology was present in the machinery while manufacturing components of the installation. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? FC: Please contact our team for information. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? FC: With a timeline of just under four weeks to complete, the final installation came together through hard work and dedication. The installation consisted of more than 75 slabs of Caesarstone material, each weighing more than 1,000 pounds, and was constructed by Unique Store Fixtures with a team of 30 installers in the lead-up to the event. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? FC: We hold the A’ Design Award highly and wanted to share our work in the hopes of winning an award. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? FC: We learned that there are no limits to what can be achieved even if the idea comes from someone’s wildest imagination.
