Interview with WONHO LEE at Sunday 3rd of May 2020 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? WL: When I saw the dusty fan standing in my room, I wanted to get rid of it. But I had to keep it for the summer, and inspired by it, I decided to design a new type of fan. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? WL: Although it is a fan, I wanted it to look like furniture. Also, I'd like to emphasize that it exists even if it doesn't work and just stands. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? WL: I will start a new project with this series of design. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? WL: It took about half year from ideation to prototyping. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? WL: At that time, I was taking a furniture design class, and while my classmates were making furniture like chairs and tables, I wanted to try something different by using my engineering background FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? WL: This design is my personal project, and I want to keep it personally rather than commercially. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? WL: Single person household. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? WL: Brise means breeze in French. When the wind comes out, it really feels like a breeze, so I named it that way. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? WL: Actually, it was my first experience to produce my design. Problems that need to be improved have been found while using them differently than when simply designing concepts. I realized why I should be a designer who behaves rather than just thinks. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? WL: No, thanks.
