Interview with Viacheslav Pytailo at Wednesday 20th of May 2020 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? VP: Contemporary art was the design inspiration for the Royal Apartment creation. Comfort, simplicity and luxury have been combined in a small space. The repair has been made in the modern classics' style using gold elements. The apartment walls are decorated with paintings by Ukrainian artists. As a result, the apartment has an area of only 64 square meters with a spacious kitchen-living room, bedroom, bathroom, dressing room and an extra storage space. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? VP: Foremost, we intended to achieve spaciousness and functional layout. The original apartment layout was extremely non-functional, a long narrow corridor, a small living room, large bedrooms, a small bathroom. As for the design they were experimenting with metal and colors' and materials' combinations. The Customer wanted art deco elements and the gold availability. It was necessary to mix these elements with others so that it was both cozy and spacious. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? VP: Our SKSdesign company is actively developing, improving the art deco mix style at the moment, creating unique metal products in collaboration with metalworkers especially for our projects. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? VP: This design was developed quickly, less than a month. Owner of SKSdesign studio Pytailo Viacheslav founded an inspiration visiting ISALONI FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? VP: The design of this project was developed by our SKSdesign team FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? VP: Whether or no, there is teamwork in the SKSdesign studio FS: Who is the target customer for his design? VP: a young married couple FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? VP: distinctive features of such a design and implementation is that a majority of metal elements are handmade, a non-standard combination in the marble tiles' bathroom and gold mosaic tiles. A mixers' golden collection from the Bugnatese Italian company, the “smart home” system application for an electric curtain, anti-flood system and playlist transfer from a smartphone to a “home theater” system, numerous mirrors to increase space and of course some pictures of Ukrainian artists. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? VP: The apartment style implies a lot of gold inherent elements in royal luxury, as well as the "Royal Tower" residential complex name of the apartment. Therefore, we did not think about the project name for a long time - the name came by itself FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? VP: software such as 3ds max autodesk archicad, roulette, markers and crayons) FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? VP: iron-shod items FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? VP: since this is an implemented project (like all our projects) but not just design one, more than 50 professionals of various specialties worked on it. These are builders and tilers, electricians, plumbers and furniture specialists, the “smart house” system specialists, specialists for working with marble and metal, decorators, etc. The team works like an orchestra in our SKS design company — we create a symphony becoming a masterpiece. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? VP: Our technology consists in well-coordinated teamwork FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? VP: The design of this project is a consequence of the Customer preferences, various techniques of working in metal and the Isaloni exhibition attendance FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? VP: The most complicated task is the planning decision that needed to be optimized.Foremost, we intended to achieve spaciousness and functional layout. The original apartment layout was extremely non-functional, a long narrow corridor, a small living room, large bedrooms, a small bathroom. As a result of the work, the apartment has an area of only 64 square meters with a spacious kitchen-living room of 33 meters, a bedroom of 18 meters, a bathroom of 7 meters, a dressing room of 6 meters and an extra storage space. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? VP: in our SKSdesign company, we consider it our duty to share our work, our know-how and achievements with the world designers' community right as with the rest of the world as a whole. We are convinced that every designer and company should make a contribution to both design and architecture development. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? VP: each work makes us stronger giving more experience; this is colors' combination, metal work and dealing with suppliers/planning solutions FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? VP: I'd like to thank Adesignaward for such a great opportunity to take part in the contest)
