X Streams Door HandleX Streams Door HandleX Streams Door Handle is an innovative architectural hardware design that reimagines the conventional door handle through the sophisticated use of reclaimed wood and artistic craftsmanship. Created by British designers Jiri Marek and Alena Marek in 2020, this distinctive handle represents a sustainable approach to architectural hardware design by utilizing wood salvaged from historic buildings. The handle's construction involves a meticulous process of joining two wooden pieces to ensure structural integrity and durability, while featuring a sophisticated curved transition between the grip and neck that enhances both ergonomic comfort and aesthetic appeal. What sets this design apart is its unique incorporation of fractal burning technique, creating intricate vein-like patterns reminiscent of flowing river streams, which are then filled with either colored epoxy resin or precious metal leafing such as gold or silver. These patterns, determined by the natural flow of electricity during the burning process, make each piece uniquely unreplicable. The handle's dimensions (140mm length, 26mm width, 65mm projection, with a 55mm x 55mm rose) are carefully calculated to ensure optimal functionality while maintaining its artistic integrity. This innovative approach to door handle design, which won an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Accessories, Hardware and Materials Design category in 2021, challenges traditional material choices in architectural hardware by demonstrating how sustainable materials can be transformed into functional art pieces that enhance interior spaces while maintaining high standards of durability and user comfort.
