Sestetto Speaker OrchestraSestetto Speaker OrchestraSestetto Speaker Orchestra is an innovative multi-channel audio system that revolutionizes the traditional approach to music playback by creating a physical orchestral experience through specialized speakers. Designed by Stefano Ivan Scarascia and Francesco Shyam Zonca, this sophisticated audio ensemble employs distinct speaker units crafted from various materials including reinforced concrete, ceramic, and wood, each specifically engineered to reproduce different instrumental voices with optimal fidelity. The system consists of a central console featuring USB connectivity, multi-channel digital-analog conversion, and six separate 30W amplifiers with dedicated controls, complemented by an array of specialized speakers. Each speaker component serves a distinct acoustic purpose: the concrete cabinets, housing polypropylene mid-woofer and tweeter combinations, excel in reproducing drums and bass frequencies; the ceramic horns, mounted in reinforced concrete cases, are optimized for wind instruments and vocals; while the wooden speakers utilize vibration transducers to activate fir and birch soundboards, particularly suited for string instruments. This innovative approach to audio reproduction, which earned the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in the Digital and Electronic Device Design category, transforms the listening experience by physically distributing individual instrument tracks throughout the space, mimicking the spatial arrangement of a live chamber orchestra. The handcrafted console, featuring fine materials such as fir, walnut, and mahogany, demonstrates exceptional attention to detail in both form and function, while the speaker units, each measuring 350 x 300 x 300mm, can be positioned freely to create an immersive soundstage that brings recorded music closer to the experience of a live performance.
