Oriental Movie Metropolis Exhibition HallOriental Movie Metropolis Exhibition HallOriental Movie Metropolis Exhibition Hall is an architecturally significant cultural venue that exemplifies the harmonious integration of marine-inspired design with contemporary theatrical functionality. Located in Qingdao's Starry Island bay, this grand theater complex draws its architectural inspiration from the conch shell, an ancient marine creature, embodying the region's rich maritime heritage through its distinctive blue sea silver conch design concept. The structure features an innovative spiraling form achieved through a sophisticated horizontal and vertical composite aluminum panel curtain wall structure, incorporating complex hyperboloid panels that required precise customization and installation. Completed in 2017 and opened in 2018, the 258,334-square-foot facility serves as the primary venue for international film festivals, hosting opening ceremonies, award presentations, and various artistic performances. The building's design, led by architect Gao Shanxing and team, employed advanced parametric design and Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology to overcome significant construction challenges, including complex skin implementation, nonlinear structural elements, and precise material positioning. The project's successful execution, which earned it a Gold A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional innovation in combining artistic vision with technical precision. The theater's curved form and comprehensive facade create a powerful narrative that connects visitors with the coastal environment, while its structural integrity and aesthetic appeal establish it as a landmark that symbolizes the cultural aspirations of its location.
