Shang He Gallery Multifunctional Sales CentreShang He Gallery Multifunctional Sales CentreShang He Gallery Multifunctional Sales Centre is an exemplary architectural and interior design achievement that seamlessly integrates cultural heritage with contemporary functionality, located in Kaifeng, Henan Province, China. This 1,050-square-meter multifunctional space, completed in October 2020, represents a sophisticated interpretation of the Northern Song Dynasty's cultural legacy, particularly drawing inspiration from the renowned masterpiece Qingming Shanghe Tu (Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival). The design, conceived by Xiwen Guo and Jun Chai, masterfully incorporates traditional Chinese architectural elements with modern design principles, featuring a ground floor dedicated to commercial functions and a second floor serving as an artistic exhibition space. The centre's distinctive features include a three-meter-high volcanic rock reception wall creating a cosmic effect, super white art glass installations reaching heights of eight meters, and innovative use of materials such as corrugated marble and custom metal carvings. The space employs sophisticated design techniques such as three-dimensional composition, light-shadow interplay, and borrowed scenery principles to create a harmonious blend of interior and exterior spaces. The project, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, exemplifies sustainable design practices while maintaining cultural authenticity through its thoughtful integration of local paper-cutting techniques and modern metal carving technology, creating a space that serves both as a functional sales centre and a cultural landmark.
