Clover High StoolClover High StoolClover High Stool is an innovative furniture design that masterfully combines Eastern and Western design elements, featuring a distinctive four-leaf clover-shaped seat surface supported by elegantly curved legs inspired by Romanesque architecture. Created by designers Shuangyong Jin and Yunfei Zhao, this sophisticated seating solution exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Chinese woodworking techniques with contemporary manufacturing processes. The stool's structure employs a bespoke mortise and tenon joint at its center, known as the Chinese Sun Mao technique, which not only ensures exceptional stability but also challenges conventional woodworking aesthetics. Each of the four leaves comprising the seat surface showcases an intricate mosaic pattern crafted from carefully selected wood strips, demonstrating both resourceful material utilization and artistic sophistication. Standing at 700mm in height with dimensions of 445mm in both width and depth, the stool features legs that are initially shaped using CNC machining technology before being meticulously hand-polished through eight distinct finishing stages. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, incorporates sustainable practices by utilizing reclaimed wood pieces that would otherwise be discarded. A stainless steel ring integrated into the base serves as a functional footrest, while the three-dimensional bottom surface requires precise handcrafting to achieve its proper contour. The petal-like surface design allows for flexible seating orientations, making it both aesthetically pleasing and practically versatile. This piece represents a significant achievement in contemporary furniture design, successfully balancing form and function while paying homage to both classical architectural elements and auspicious symbolism through its four-leaf clover motif representing faith, hope, love, and luck.
