Still Promised Land VillaStill Promised Land VillaStill Promised Land Villa is an exemplary residential architectural project completed in 2021 in Taichung, Taiwan, that masterfully integrates Buddhist philosophy with contemporary design principles. The 991.74-square-meter villa represents a harmonious fusion of spiritual tranquility and modern living spaces, distinguished by its thoughtful incorporation of natural materials and traditional architectural elements reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. The design, conceived by Kenny Yang, draws profound inspiration from Buddhist scripture, particularly the Heart Sutra, creating an atmosphere that emanates Buddha-nature without explicit religious iconography. The villa's architectural composition features a sophisticated double-layer roof system with covered ridge and sidewall openings, facilitating natural ventilation throughout the structure. The interior spaces are meticulously crafted, incorporating a family hall for Buddhist worship at the garret level, enhanced by recessed lighting behind solid wooden panels that creates a serene, contemplative atmosphere. The property's material palette emphasizes sustainability and connection to the land, featuring natural solid wood, red earth, mineral paint, and ironwork, materials chosen for their ability to develop character and natural patina over time. The living spaces are thoughtfully arranged to maintain visual connections with the landscaping throughout the seasons, while the basement level houses an audio-visual room separated from the study by an innovative suspended bookshelf design. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, exemplifies excellence in spatial planning, environmental consciousness, and spiritual architecture.
