The Experiment Residential

The Experiment Residential

The Experiment Residential is an innovative interior design project completed in June 2020 in New Taipei City, Taiwan, that reimagines contemporary living spaces through thoughtful spatial arrangements and material selections. This residential design project, created by Yi-Ling Syu, transforms a 20-ping presold house into a modern living space that centers around an open-concept kitchen, challenging traditional spatial divisions while promoting family interaction. The design's distinctive approach features a sophisticated grey and white color palette, creating a compelling contrast between rough concrete walls and smooth surfaces, particularly evident in the television wall installation. A notable innovation in the design is the kitchen island equipped with an IH stove, positioned to allow occupants to enjoy window views while cooking, with an ingenious solution for cooking ventilation through concealed elevating glass panels. The project demonstrates exceptional attention to maintenance and sustainability through its material choices, incorporating LED lighting systems designed to minimize dust accumulation, easy-to-clean baked glass surfaces, and hotfix laminate hard plastic sheets. The spatial arrangement eliminates conventional walls in favor of clever cabinet divisions, creating a fluid transition between living spaces while maintaining functional separation. This design, which earned an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, exemplifies a successful balance between aesthetic sophistication and practical functionality, particularly in its innovative approach to storage solutions and the integration of eco-friendly elements. The project's emphasis on natural lighting and centralized storage demonstrates a profound understanding of modern urban living requirements, while its material selections and spatial planning reflect a commitment to both sustainability and family-centered design principles.
