Beijing Pageone Wudaokou Bookstore

Beijing Pageone Wudaokou Bookstore is an innovative architectural and lighting design masterpiece located in Beijing's Haidian district, adjacent to the Wudaokou subway station on line 13. The establishment represents a sophisticated fusion of modern design principles and functional aesthetics, featuring a distinctive polyhedron facade composed of irregularly shaped panels that primarily encompass the second floor. The interior space is thoughtfully organized with a combination of high bookshelves and low book stands, enhanced by an advanced lighting design system that earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2022. The lighting scheme employs varying wattage configurations tailored to different functional areas: standard linear lighting for regular bookshelves, enhanced illumination for taller units facing the glass curtain wall, and specialized accent lighting where needed. The design utilizes LED linear lights with 10W/m beam angle 37 degrees and embedded downlights with adjustable angles, all maintaining a color temperature of 3000K and a color rendering index above 90. The project, completed between June 2020 and April 2021, demonstrates exceptional attention to creating a welcoming atmosphere through the strategic use of light-colored materials and warm, soft lighting that enables visitors to immerse themselves in literary exploration. The space serves multiple functions beyond traditional retail, incorporating areas for exhibitions and lectures, particularly catering to the academic community in Beijing's university district. The interior illumination ingeniously interacts with the glass curtain wall, creating an eye-catching nocturnal presence despite the challenges of working with an existing facade structure.
