Waves Closet

Waves Closet is an innovative modular furniture design that reimagines the conventional wardrobe through a sculptural interpretation of oceanic waves, created by Turkish designer Hasan Ozkul. This avant-garde storage solution, standing at 1800mm in height, width, and 750mm in depth, comprises seven independent cabinet units crafted from lacquered wood, featuring a sophisticated push-to-open system that creates a secondary wave-like experience through smoothly sliding drawers. The design's exterior form draws inspiration from the Mediterranean Sea, specifically capturing the frozen moment of overlapping water puddles on the shore, resulting in a monumental aesthetic that doubles as functional surface space. Distinguished by its brilliant blue hand-painted finish both inside and out, the closet incorporates ergonomic features including flexible shelf adjustments for cosmetics and underwear, spacious drawers for clothing and accessories, and a specialized shirt hanger that slides from the side. This groundbreaking furniture piece, which won the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2022, challenges traditional storage solutions by seamlessly blending sculptural artistry with practical functionality. The design's modular nature allows for expansion through additional pieces, while its demountable construction ensures versatility in various spatial contexts. The project represents a significant departure from conventional tall rectangular cabinets, offering users an engaging interactive experience through its push-to-open mechanism while maintaining a clean-cut sculptural presence that contributes to the room's overall aesthetic atmosphere.
