Tea And Zen TeahouseTea And Zen TeahouseTea and Zen Teahouse is an exemplary architectural and interior design project that masterfully reimagines the traditional Chinese tea ceremony space within a contemporary urban context. Located in a historic district near Beijing Road Pedestrian Street in Guangzhou, this innovative establishment spans 4.3 meters in width and 20 meters in length across three and a half stories, featuring a distinctive facade constructed from red volcanic rock that harmoniously balances prominence with modesty. The design, conceived by Qiang Wang, ingeniously addresses the challenges of a narrow urban plot by incorporating a rectangular patio and atrium positioned at one-third of the structure, creating dynamic passageways that facilitate natural flow and circulation. The exterior design evokes the aesthetic of a purple clay teapot, while the interior space artfully combines black volcanic rocks, terrazzo flooring, and walnut accents to achieve a natural, minimalist expression. The thoughtful integration of a triangular roof opening extends from the entrance through to the first-floor reception area, enhancing the spatial experience. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category demonstrates exceptional attention to the interplay of light and shadow, incorporating traditional Chinese philosophical elements that reflect the spiritual aspects of tea culture. The design successfully creates an atmosphere where guests can experience the changing seasons and natural elements while enjoying traditional tea ceremonies, effectively bridging the gap between ancient customs and modern architectural sensibilities.
