Shamim Polymer FactoryShamim Polymer FactoryShamim Polymer Factory is an innovative industrial architecture project located in Iran's Alborz province, exemplifying a harmonious blend of traditional Iranian architectural principles with modern industrial requirements. The facility, designed by architect Davood Boroojeni and completed in 2020, represents a significant advancement in factory design through its thoughtful integration of production, research, and office spaces within a 3,000-square-meter site. The design's distinctive feature lies in its innovative use of two perpendicular void spaces that function as central courtyards, drawing inspiration from traditional Iranian architectural patterns while serving the practical purpose of separating different functional areas. This architectural solution effectively addresses the common challenge of maintaining distinct yet connected spaces in industrial facilities, utilizing circulation elements rather than conventional walls for space division. The structure employs exposed materials throughout, including steel framework, concrete floors, and prefabricated concrete blocks, reflecting both industrial authenticity and environmental consciousness. The design particularly emphasizes human-centric spaces through careful consideration of dimensions, natural lighting, and the integration of green spaces, creating a more pleasant working environment that transcends typical industrial architecture. The project, which won the Silver A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional achievement in combining functional efficiency with aesthetic appeal, while successfully incorporating sustainable design principles and cultural sensitivity. The factory's design particularly stands out for its reinterpretation of traditional Iranian architectural elements like the middle courtyard and cruciform axes, adapting these historical concepts to meet contemporary industrial needs while maintaining their cultural significance.
