Bada Chair

Bada Chair is an innovative ergonomic seating solution designed by Jeongmin Ryu and Taekeun Oh that employs a unique approach to posture correction through intentional discomfort. Created in 2021, this distinctive furniture piece addresses the growing concern of prolonged sitting habits in modern society and their adverse effects on spinal health. The chair's ingenious design incorporates a rotating seat mechanism that responds to poor posture by gradually creating an inclination, compelling users to readjust their sitting position. Crafted from white oak solid wood with stainless steel CD-Bar components, the chair measures W500mm x D580mm x H750mm and features flowing curves that metaphorically express the seat's rotational movement. The design emerged from extensive research that determined an optimal 8-degree slope for effective posture correction, based on a standard seat height of 450mm. This innovative approach to ergonomic furniture design earned the chair a Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, recognizing its contribution to addressing contemporary health challenges through thoughtful design intervention. The chair's mechanism operates on the principle of preventive discomfort, where the seat plate's rotation creates a subtle yet effective reminder for users to maintain proper posture, particularly relevant in the context of increased sedentary lifestyles during the global pandemic.
