Dress Pottery Furniture CollectionDress Pottery Furniture CollectionDress Pottery Furniture Collection is an innovative interior design series that revolutionizes the traditional approach to pottery and furniture design, created by Japanese designer Masahiro Kito. This groundbreaking collection transforms hanging cloth into porcelain forms, creating a unique momentary space that appears to defy gravity while bringing delicate ceramic artistry into everyday living environments. The collection, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category, encompasses various furniture pieces including chairs, tables, and lighting fixtures, all crafted through an innovative production process where glass cloth is immersed in ceramic slurry and fired in multiple layers at 1150 degrees Celsius. The distinctive manufacturing technique, developed in Aichi Prefecture, Japan's traditional pottery production center, addresses conventional challenges of pottery furniture such as weight and structural integrity through the ingenious use of glass fiber cloth, which provides optimal water absorption, quick-drying properties, and enhanced structural strength when fired. The collection features precisely calculated dimensions, with chairs measuring W450 x D450 x H960 mm (seat height 350 mm) and accompanying tables at W400 x D320 x H600 mm. The pieces are distinguished by their organic forms and unique light-transmitting properties, making them particularly striking as lighting fixtures. This innovative approach to furniture design not only pushes the boundaries of traditional pottery techniques but also introduces a new aesthetic language in interior decoration, where the ephemeral quality of draped fabric is permanently captured in porcelain, creating functional sculptures that serve both practical and artistic purposes.
