SwordLion Metal Postcard PenHolder

SwordLion Metal Postcard PenHolder

SwordLion Metal Postcard PenHolder is an innovative cultural-creative stationery design that uniquely combines traditional Chinese artistry with contemporary functionality. This versatile design piece, created by ChungSheng Chen and ChangHsien Cho, represents a sophisticated fusion of cultural heritage and modern utility, drawing inspiration from the historical Anping SwordLion totem of Tainan, Taiwan. The design consists of a series of five distinct metal postcards, each incorporating elements from Chinese philosophy's five elements - metal, wood, water, fire, and earth - expressed through different colors and facial expressions. Manufactured using advanced laser cutting and engraving techniques on galvanized sheet metal with powder paint coating, each piece measures 20.6 x 12.6 x 1mm. The design's ingenuity lies in its dual functionality: initially serving as a decorative metal postcard suitable for writing messages or creating artwork, it can subsequently be transformed through a clever folding mechanism into a functional pen holder. This transformative capability exemplifies innovative structural engineering in stationery design. The cultural significance of the design extends beyond its practical utility, serving as a contemporary interpretation of traditional architectural decorative elements, particularly the SwordLion motifs that historically adorned doorways in Anping's old street. Winner of the Iron A' Design Award in the Art and Stationery Supplies Design category, this creation successfully preserves and reinterprets cultural heritage while introducing a novel approach to souvenir design. The product demonstrates exceptional attention to detail in its construction, combining durability with aesthetic appeal through its powder-coated finish and precise laser engraving, making it both a functional office accessory and a meaningful cultural artifact.
