The Booklight LightingThe Booklight LightingThe booklight Lighting is an innovative illumination device that ingeniously merges the functional aspects of lighting with the familiar form factor of a book, creating a unique and interactive lighting solution. Designed by Kahyun Kim from the Republic of Korea, this creative lighting fixture represents a harmonious blend of practicality and poetic design sensibility. The design draws its inspiration from the everyday action of removing a book from a shelf, transforming this familiar gesture into a novel mechanism for activating illumination. Crafted from white polycarbonate plastic, aluminum, and acrylic glass, the fixture incorporates energy-efficient LED technology that consumes 90% less power than traditional incandescent bulbs. With dimensions of 50mm in width, 200mm in depth, and 240mm in height, the booklight seamlessly integrates into existing bookshelves, functioning as both a decorative element and a practical lighting solution. The device features dual charging capabilities through USB and adapter options, offering versatile power management. When not in use, it maintains its aesthetic appeal as part of the bookshelf, and when needed, it can be easily removed and positioned wherever illumination is required. The design, which was developed between 2010 and 2011, garnered international recognition when it received the Platinum A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, acknowledging its exceptional innovation and creative approach to everyday lighting needs. This prestigious accolade highlighted the design's unique ability to combine functional lighting with an intuitive user interface inspired by human behavior.
