Kyanyuan Club House

Kyanyuan Club House is an exemplary architectural achievement situated atop an established business building adjacent to West Lake in Hangzhou, China, representing a harmonious fusion of traditional Chinese garden aesthetics with contemporary design principles. This 1,600-square-meter garden clubhouse, completed in January 2020, masterfully incorporates natural ecological elements throughout its space, creating a tranquil sanctuary amid urban vibrancy. Designed by Wei Zhang, the project draws inspiration from Du Fu's classical Chinese poetry, particularly For a Guest, embodying the philosophical concept of finding serenity within bustling city life. The design employs sophisticated material combinations including solid wood, tiles, cobblestones, and self-leveling cement, complemented by extensive white textures that create an ethereal atmosphere reminiscent of traditional Chinese paintings. The space features a meticulously planned layout encompassing dining areas, tearooms, guest quarters, and office spaces, with indoor and outdoor courtyards strategically positioned to create a seamless flow between interior and exterior environments. The project overcame significant technical challenges, including comprehensive floor slab reinforcement with steel plates and innovative shallow topsoil planting solutions to achieve its garden aesthetic. The design's excellence was recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2021, acknowledging its outstanding contribution to contemporary spatial design. The clubhouse employs the traditional Chinese architectural technique of borrowing scenery, offering spectacular views of West Lake, Baochu Pagoda, and Wulin Road, while maintaining an atmosphere of secluded refinement.
