Diagonal Table is an innovative furniture design that exemplifies the sophisticated interplay between geometric principles and functional aesthetics. Created by designers Chris Chen and TC Kuo, this contemporary piece features a distinctive structural composition based on diagonal geometrical guidelines, where the clean inter-cross stand structure creates a dynamic visual tension through its intentionally twisted angle. The table's dimensions of 850mm width, 1700mm length, and 750mm height are carefully calculated to achieve optimal proportions, while its construction employs a steel frame with powder coating surface for the stand and plywood with walnut veneer for the tabletop. The design's sophistication lies in its main structural skeleton, which is ingeniously embedded within the tabletop and transmits force through three mediated columns to the stand, following two cross diagonal logic patterns that connect to 90-degree table stands. This architectural approach extends beyond mere aesthetics, as the diagonal logic permeates every element of the desk's composition, from the layout of the walnut veneer to the structural framework. A particularly noteworthy aspect is the void/solid dialogue that emerges as viewers move around the table, creating varying impressions ranging from the lightness of a modern steel-frame glass building to the solidity of concrete architecture. The bevel detail of the tabletop and the technique used to distance the stand from the tabletop are specifically designed to create a floating illusion, demonstrating exceptional attention to detail and innovative thinking in furniture design. This remarkable piece, which was completed in October 2017, earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, recognizing its outstanding contribution to contemporary furniture design through its innovative use of materials, aesthetic appeal, and functional excellence.
