Same But Different Tangible SmellSame But Different Tangible SmellSame But Different Tangible Smell is an innovative art installation and research project that explores the fascinating phenomenon of chemical isomers through tangible sculptural forms, transforming invisible olfactory experiences into physical manifestations. This groundbreaking work investigates compounds with identical molecular compositions but different atomic arrangements, which result in distinct smell properties, translating these scientific concepts into an interactive sensory experience. The project consists of meticulously crafted 3D-printed sculptures, approximately 12-15cm in size, featuring internal chambers (2cm) filled with absorbent materials that preserve specific scents, connected to the exterior through 2mm conduits for controlled diffusion. Each sculpture embodies a dual nature, incorporating two contrasting smells within a single form, with the shapes derived from molecular representations of the chemical compounds. The sculptures are finished with multiple layers of holographic paint applied through industrial airbrush techniques, creating a visual metaphor for the duality of the preserved scents. Designed by Asya Demidova, this work represents a significant contribution to the intersection of science, art, and sensory design, earning recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category. The project successfully bridges the gap between complex chemical phenomena and public understanding through its innovative approach to making the invisible visible and tangible, while maintaining scientific accuracy in its interpretation.
