Pod House KindergartenPod House KindergartenPod House Kindergarten is an innovative educational space design project that exemplifies creative architectural transformation in urban renewal contexts. Located in Shanghai's Xuhui district, this 120-square-meter facility represents a masterful conversion of an abandoned laundry facility into a vibrant learning environment. The design's distinctive feature is its irregular arc-shaped structure, reminiscent of a pea pod, symbolizing the nurturing environment essential for children's growth and development. The architectural solution incorporates sophisticated elements including circular skylights, a rooftop playground with a circular track, and thoughtfully designed climbing slopes that cater to children's natural inclination for exploration and physical activity. The interior space is characterized by different-sized round holes and specular stainless steel reflections that create an engaging, multidimensional environment while effectively blurring spatial boundaries. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design, successfully addresses the challenges of urban space constraints while maintaining the original building's height and boundary limitations. The design's innovative approach to space utilization includes the integration of auxiliary functions within external negative spaces for storage and practical facilities, demonstrating exceptional efficiency in spatial planning. The pod-shaped structure not only serves its functional purpose but also creates an environment that stimulates creativity and supports diverse learning activities, making it a significant contribution to contemporary educational architecture.
