Wash-it Sustainable Washing Unit

Wash-it Sustainable washing unit is an innovative sustainable design solution that integrates showering and clothes-washing functionalities to optimize water usage in domestic and public environments. This groundbreaking concept, developed by designers Aktas, Ilhan, Onalan, and Soylemez, addresses the critical issue of excessive water consumption in daily hygiene routines by implementing a closed plumbing system that filters and reuses shower water for clothing maintenance. The system incorporates sophisticated filtration technology, including carbon, organic, and chemical filters, alongside UV cleaning capabilities and a dedicated water storage unit. Standing at 220 cm in height, 160 cm in width, and 110 cm in depth, the unit features a thermoformed acrylic (PMMA) construction with modular components for easy maintenance. The domestic version enables simultaneous showering and clothes washing without additional water consumption, while the public variant introduces innovative Air-wash technology for quick clothing refreshment, effectively eliminating odors and sweat. This sustainable design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Futuristic Design category, represents a significant advancement in water conservation technology, offering a practical solution to reduce the approximately 150 liters of water typically consumed during a 15-minute shower. The system's intelligent water management approach and dual-purpose functionality demonstrate a forward-thinking response to environmental challenges while maintaining user comfort and convenience.
