Pingjiang Times Mixed UsePingjiang Times Mixed UsePingjiang Times Mixed Use is an innovative architectural complex situated in the Jiangwan area of Hangzhou, China, exemplifying a harmonious integration of multiple urban functions including a high-end hotel, retail shopping mall, serviced apartments, and office spaces. The design, conceived by architects Jun Ding and Michael Strohmer, draws profound inspiration from the fluid dynamics of water, manifesting in its distinctive curved façade system and overlapping architectural elements that create a compelling visual narrative. The project, spanning 80,705 square meters with a height limit of 80 meters, encompasses a 250-room hotel, a 14,000-square-meter commercial center, and 34,397 square meters of service apartments. The architectural composition employs a layered X-shaped configuration, strategically positioning the hotel with single-loaded corridors to maximize lake views for all rooms. The design's innovative approach to urban integration is evident in its solution to site constraints, incorporating an internal retail street beneath the X-shaped tower and creating an active pedestrian environment. The project's environmental consciousness is demonstrated through its sophisticated separation of vehicular and pedestrian circulation, featuring elevated landscape platforms that extend toward the waterfront, fostering social interaction between locals and visitors. The façade, developed using advanced parametric design tools, carefully balances solid-to-void ratios to ensure optimal interior comfort while maintaining its water-inspired aesthetic. This architectural achievement, recognized with a Golden A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, represents a significant contribution to contemporary urban design, successfully bridging the gap between inland and waterfront landscapes while promoting sustainable urban development.
