Marn Hotel AmenitiesMarn Hotel AmenitiesMarn Hotel Amenities is an innovative collection of ceramic hotel amenities inspired by traditional Taiwanese festive snacks from Tainan, designed by C.H Chang, H.A Chang, Y.Q Luo, and S.C Huang. This culturally significant design transforms local culinary heritage into functional hospitality items, where each piece serves a distinct purpose while maintaining aesthetic connections to traditional snacks. The collection includes a turtle-shaped rice cake reimagined as a hand soap and soap dish (120mm x 60mm x 16mm), mung bean cake interpreted as toiletries (200mm x 80mm x 10mm), tang yuan sweet dumpling transformed into a hand cream container (100mm x 100mm x 23mm), and steamed bun with Tainan brown sugar bun cake adapted into a tea set (300mm x 300mm x 55mm). The name Marn itself carries cultural significance, representing fulfillment in Chinese culture. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in white ceramic, requiring sophisticated pottery techniques to achieve lifelike representations of the traditional snacks. The design, which won the Silver A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design category, exemplifies how hospitality amenities can serve as cultural ambassadors, creating meaningful connections between guests and local heritage. The project, developed between September 2017 and March 2018, addresses the challenge of elevating standard hotel amenities into cultural artifacts while maintaining functionality and aesthetic appeal. The design successfully bridges the gap between utility and cultural preservation, offering hotel guests an immersive experience of Tainan's rich culinary traditions through everyday objects.
