Slope House ResidenceSlope House ResidenceSlope House Residence is an architecturally distinctive residential project completed in 2020, situated on the gentle slopes of Wonju city, South Korea, exemplifying a harmonious integration of built form with natural topography. The design, conceived by architect Kyungsik Kim, features a remarkable sloped surface that functions both as roof and facade, drawing inspiration from the adjacent Kam-Ak mountain's natural contours. This innovative architectural solution creates a strong visual impact while serving as a metaphorical extension of the surrounding landscape. The residence, encompassing 187 square meters across two floors, demonstrates sophisticated material selection through its thoughtful combination of dark zinc paneling, light gray brick walls, and corten steel accents. The zinc roofing material was specifically chosen for its durability against harsh winter conditions and heavy snowfall, while the contrasting materiality helps differentiate the building's distinct architectural elements. A particularly noteworthy feature is the sculpted terrace integrated into the roof, oriented towards the eastern mountain, offering panoramic views that transform with the seasons. The compact volume of the structure responds pragmatically to the region's severe winter climate, while maintaining aesthetic excellence and functional efficiency. This exemplary piece of residential architecture, recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category in 2021, represents a successful synthesis of environmental responsiveness, material innovation, and contextual design sensitivity.
