The Taste Of Heritage Instant CoffeeThe Taste Of Heritage Instant CoffeeThe Taste of Heritage Instant Coffee is an innovative packaging design project that exemplifies the fusion of cultural preservation and contemporary product presentation, created by Malaysian designer Shawn Goh Chin Siang and his team at Shawn Goh Design Lab. This sophisticated instant coffee packaging design, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category, masterfully integrates the rich cultural heritage of Malaysia's three main ethnic groups through its distinctive visual elements. The design features three unique variations, each celebrating different cultural motifs: Peking Opera representing Chinese culture, peacock imagery symbolizing Indian heritage, and Wayang kulit reflecting Malay traditions. The packaging utilizes aluminum foil matt exterior with Pantone colors for aesthetic appeal, while incorporating aluminum foil glossy interior to preserve the coffee's aromatic properties and protect against direct sunlight exposure. Measuring 24.9cm x 17.9cm x 7cm for the primary package and 4cm x 16.2cm for individual units, the design accommodates 450g of product while maintaining visual sophistication. The incorporation of traditional Malaysian batik patterns creates a cohesive visual narrative that bridges ancient artistic traditions with modern packaging requirements. Developed in collaboration with Pulau Langkawi Tourism Bureau, this design serves dual purposes: preserving cultural heritage for future generations and promoting Malaysian tourism through product design. The project, completed between June and August 2020, demonstrates exceptional attention to technical challenges, particularly in managing the complex printing requirements for vibrant cultural motifs while maintaining professional production standards.
