Pinguino Salt & Pepper Shaker

Pinguino Salt & Pepper Shaker

Pinguino Salt & pepper shaker is an innovative tableware design that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of form and function in contemporary kitchenware design. Created by Australian industrial designer Simon Colabufalo, this ingenious creation transforms the conventional salt and pepper shaker into a whimsical yet practical penguin-shaped dispenser. The design, measuring 100mm x 60mm x 55mm, is crafted from clear acrylic material and employs a clever visual concept where the contents themselves - white salt and black pepper - create the iconic penguin coloration when filled. This sophisticated approach to kitchenware design demonstrates remarkable attention to manufacturing considerations, with the design incorporating proper draft angles and injection molding specifications for mass production feasibility. The functionality is elegantly integrated through a rotating beak mechanism that alternates between dispensing salt and pepper, making it both intuitive and user-friendly. The design process, which spanned from May to August 2013 in Melbourne, involved extensive research including observations of penguins in their natural habitat and comprehensive study of penguin imagery through various media. This innovative design earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design category, acknowledging its excellence in meeting professional and industrial standards while delivering a creative solution that enhances the dining experience through its thoughtful combination of aesthetic appeal and practical functionality.
