Wavy Stillness Sports BarWavy Stillness Sports BarWavy Stillness Sports Bar is an innovative hospitality establishment in Himeji, Japan, that masterfully combines the sophistication of a luxury café with the dynamic atmosphere of a sports bar, exemplifying contemporary Japanese interior design excellence. Located on the fourth floor of a commercial building, this 285-square-meter space showcases a remarkable integration of contrasting atmospheres through thoughtful architectural and design elements. The establishment's most distinctive feature is its dramatic wall treatment behind the counter, featuring three-dimensional stainless steel sheets that create dynamic reflections that shift with the viewer's perspective, embodying the conceptual duality of wave and stillness. The interior architecture maximizes its privileged location with floor-to-ceiling glazing offering views of both the adjacent movie theater and the historic Himeji Castle, while the sophisticated material palette includes marble-clad pillars, custom upholstered sofas, and glass mosaic tiles. The space planning demonstrates exceptional versatility, incorporating 21 screens arranged in four different configurations for sports viewing while maintaining an elegant ambiance through luxury hotel-inspired elements such as colorful sofas and premium finishes. The design, created by Tetsuya Matsumoto, Motoaki Takeuchi, and Farid Ziani, successfully overcomes the challenge of adapting an existing space configuration to serve dual purposes without compromising either function. This innovative approach to hospitality design earned the project a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, recognizing its outstanding contribution to contemporary commercial interior design. The project, completed in May 2021, represents a sophisticated solution to modern hospitality needs, where the boundaries between different types of entertainment venues are increasingly fluid.
