Moonshine Commercial Space is an award-winning brutalist-style café interior design that exemplifies the raw authenticity and architectural craftsmanship of contemporary commercial spaces. Created by designers Mok Liu and Ingyu Ko, this 100-square-meter establishment represents a sophisticated interpretation of brutalist principles in modern retail design, earning recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category. The design philosophy centers on the deliberate elimination of superfluous ornamentation, instead emphasizing the inherent beauty of raw materials, particularly concrete, which is masterfully manipulated through various techniques including hammered surfaces and cement spatula patterns. The spatial composition features thoughtfully carved interaction zones with varying seating heights, an extended communal bar top, and bench seating, creating a dynamic flow that connects the semi-outdoor seating area to the bean roasting facility. A notable technical achievement in the project is the innovative approach to concrete pattern-making, where precast molds were utilized to create intricate façade details that were subsequently integrated into the furniture pieces. The 5x20-meter space demonstrates exceptional attention to visual connectivity, allowing street-side observers to engage with the internal factory space, which serves as the café's focal point.
