Nanhua Glimmer Public LandscapeNanhua Glimmer Public LandscapeNanhua Glimmer Public Landscape is an innovative public space transformation project located in Pingtung, Taiwan, that exemplifies the seamless integration of ecological education, community engagement, and artistic landscape design. This Gold A' Design Award-winning project represents a remarkable metamorphosis of a former school campus into a vibrant community landscape park, distinguished by its unique interpretation of regional natural features through geometric forms. The design's cornerstone lies in its sophisticated interpretation of local topographical elements, where continuous curvature concrete retaining walls echo the patterns of pineapple fields and mountain ridge folds, creating a harmonious dialogue between built and natural environments. The 18,106-square-meter site incorporates an advanced mist-generating facility that serves dual purposes: providing plant irrigation while recreating the ethereal atmosphere of mountain mists, complemented by embedded light strips that create an enchanting nocturnal ambiance. The project's ecological emphasis is evident in its careful preservation of mature trees and thoughtful selection of plant varieties, including edible species and aquatic plants in the eco pond, which collectively serve as living educational resources. The design successfully addresses multiple challenges through barrier-free passages, precise environmental control systems, and the innovative integration of traditional construction methods, particularly in the use of terrazzo for retaining walls, which fosters a sense of cultural continuity and familiarity among visitors. The project's most distinctive feature is its evocation of collective local memory through the interplay of mist and light, creating a sensory experience that recalls the natural phenomenon of mountain mist flowing through mahogany forests and agricultural landscapes.
