Yuanbo Teaching BuildingYuanbo Teaching BuildingYuanbo Teaching Building is a transformative architectural renovation project located in Zhuhai, China, that exemplifies innovative educational space design through its thoughtful integration of form and function. The structure, originally comprising 15 separate cubic volumes with two courtyards, underwent a comprehensive redesign that maintained its fundamental character while introducing dynamic new elements. The building's most distinctive feature is its continuous loop of stairs and corridors that seamlessly connects roofs, courtyards, and indoor spaces, fostering an environment conducive to intellectual exchange and social interaction. The renovation incorporated sophisticated sustainable design elements, including a dry-hanging brick wall system for thermal regulation and a specialized window casing system for solar control. The building's transformation included the creation of a square and a round courtyard, complete with outdoor exhibition spaces, resting areas, and performance venues. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional spatial efficiency by expanding from 13,532 to 13,762 square meters through the addition of mezzanine spaces. The 24-meter-tall structure features innovative solutions such as carefully integrated lighting systems, preserved existing trees with surrounding terraces, and a sophisticated natural ventilation system optimized through computational simulation. The rooftop has been reimagined with a distinctive combination of red plastic track, green grass, and yellow wood, transforming previously unutilized mechanical spaces into vibrant recreational areas that offer panoramic views.
