PneuBots Soft RoboticsPneuBots Soft RoboticsPneuBots Soft Robotics is an innovative modular construction kit designed to democratize access to soft robotics technology through an educational and interactive approach. This groundbreaking system comprises seven distinct types of self-foldable segments featuring high tensile strength, complemented by three varieties of pneumatic connectors and splitters, all housed within a custom-designed container measuring 200mm x 70mm x 100mm. The system's fundamental components are fabricated through an advanced heat-pressing process, where two layers of PVC film are precisely sealed along origami-inspired patterns using CNC-milling technology, resulting in exceptionally accurate and smooth geometric formations. Each module incorporates between one to five pneumatic ports with oral-inflation-valves, enabling various actuation patterns including shrinking, curling, and bending through three primary working shapes: line, diagonal, and diamond. The system's innovative design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Education, Teaching Aid and Training Content Design category, allows for seamless programmability when integrated with compatible devices, enabling artists, designers, engineers, and makers to create dynamic, shape-changing, and interactive works. The kit's versatility extends to applications in wearables, modular board games, creative art installations, and simple robots, effectively lowering the barriers to entry in soft robotics experimentation while maintaining professional-grade functionality and educational value. The development process, spanning from June 2021 to January 2022, involved extensive user feedback and research, particularly focusing on addressing the needs of individuals from non-technical backgrounds who seek to explore the rapidly evolving field of soft robotics.
