Quattro Eco Smart GardenQuattro Eco Smart GardenQuattro Eco Smart Garden is an innovative ceramic smart garden system that seamlessly integrates ancient horticultural wisdom with modern technology, designed by Marco Coletti in 2018. Drawing inspiration from the medieval hortus conclusus tradition, this sophisticated indoor gardening solution incorporates the time-tested Olla irrigation technique, an ancestral method dating back 4,000 years to ancient China and later adopted by Roman civilization. The design comprises three primary components: a glazed ceramic water container base, four unglazed terracotta vessels, and an advanced grow lamp with integrated timer functionality. The system's innovative approach to plant cultivation lies in its utilization of micro-porous terracotta, which enables roots to naturally draw precisely the required amount of water, preventing water shock and promoting harmonious plant growth. The specialized Osram LED grow lamp, operating on a carefully calibrated 12-hour cycle, emits specific light frequencies optimized for plant development, while consuming only 8W of power. The design's technical specifications include a matt white metal frame, anthracite-colored pots, and comprehensive safety features such as a satin PMMA diffuser. Measuring 29.4 x 28 x 37.4 centimeters and weighing 4.5 kilograms, this eco-smart garden represents a significant advancement in sustainable indoor horticulture, offering up to two weeks of water autonomy through its efficient irrigation system. The design earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Decorative Items and Homeware Design category, acknowledging its innovative fusion of traditional techniques with contemporary design principles.
