RGB Hotel HomestayRGB Hotel HomestayRGB Hotel Homestay is an architecturally distinctive hospitality establishment located in Kangding, Sichuan, China, that masterfully integrates contemporary design principles with local cultural elements and natural surroundings. Completed in August 2021, this 15,000-square-meter development, designed by Xiaobing Yao in collaboration with Baoan Luo and Inbei Zhao, represents a sophisticated interpretation of modern hospitality architecture that harmoniously blends with its mountainous setting. The project, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, is conceptually structured around three chromatic elements: red symbolizing sunrise and sunset, green representing ecological jungle, and blue reflecting sky and hot springs. The design philosophy emphasizes sustainability and environmental consciousness, featuring innovative thermal energy conversion systems that power individual bubble pools in each guest room, minimizing energy waste and environmental impact. The architectural composition comprises two main zones: a reception and leisure area, and an accommodation section, both characterized by thoughtful material selection including art paint, wood floor tiles, tung oil bark, steel structure, ecological stone pieces, and original wind wood. The second floor's contemporary architectural system pays homage to local building traditions through its tung oil-soaked bark roof combined with modern white walls, creating a harmonious dialogue between traditional and contemporary design elements. The project's design strategy focuses on creating open, public spaces that serve a broader community while maintaining cultural sensitivity and structural innovation, exemplified by the preservation of historical elements such as original broken walls that serve both aesthetic and conservation purposes.
